Hello, I'm Allison!

I’m Allison Grodinsky, founder of Renew Resilience Counselling and a registered social worker and psychotherapist. I believe that resilience is a capacity we all carry, though sometimes life circumstances or internal barriers can mask it. My purpose is to help you reconnect with your inner strength and find meaning, calm, and forward momentum in your life.

Let's work together

My Background and Values

I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelor of Social Sciences with a specialization in Social Work and a minor in Women’s Studies. As a Registered Social Worker (RSW) and member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), I am committed to practicing with integrity, accountability, and ongoing professional development.

My work is grounded in empathy, respect, honesty, and collaboration. I believe therapy should be a space where you feel safe to be yourself, speak openly, and explore your experiences without judgment. From our first conversation, my goal is to build a genuine therapeutic relationship where you feel heard, understood, and supported.

I also believe that our struggles do not exist in isolation. Our mental health can be shaped by our experiences, relationships, physical health, environment, and the systems around us. I take a holistic, trauma-informed approach that considers the whole person rather than viewing challenges as personal flaws.

Who I Work With & What I Help With

I work with teens (14+) and adults across Ontario, offering in-person therapy in the Ottawa region and virtual sessions throughout the province. I provide therapy in both English and French.

I support clients experiencing a range of concerns, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
  • Depression and low mood
  • Burnout and emotional exhaustion
  • Emotion regulation and self-esteem
  • Trauma and difficult past experiences
  • Life transitions, identity, and sense of meaning
  • Relationship and interpersonal challenges
  • Chronic health and pain-related challenges
  • Difficulties with boundaries, coping, and self-understanding

My clinical focus includes trauma and complex life experiences, and I work with clients who may feel stuck in patterns that are affecting how they see themselves, relate to others, or navigate everyday life.

If you are unsure whether therapy is right for you or whether I can help with what you are experiencing, I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can explore whether we may be a good fit.

My Approach to Therapy

I take an integrative approach to therapy, drawing from a range of evidence-based and trauma-informed modalities. Depending on your needs and goals, our work may incorporate:

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
  • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
  • Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Mindfulness-based practices
  • Strengths-based and trauma-informed approaches

I tailor therapy to the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all model. We may focus on developing practical coping skills, understanding patterns in your thoughts and behaviours, processing difficult experiences, strengthening emotional regulation, or exploring the deeper experiences and beliefs that may be influencing how you feel today.

I also believe therapy should be collaborative. You are the expert on your own life, and my role is to bring clinical knowledge and support while working alongside you. If something doesn't feel helpful or doesn't fit, I welcome that feedback so we can adjust our approach together.

Why Choose This Work With Me?

I believe meaningful therapy begins with feeling genuinely understood. I don't see my role as simply helping you manage symptoms. I want to understand the person behind them and the experiences, relationships, and circumstances that have shaped you.

My approach is:

  • Collaborative: I don't assume I know what's best for you. We work together toward goals that are meaningful to you.
  • Nonjudgmental: I strive to create a space where you can speak honestly about your experiences without fear of judgment or shame.
  • Trauma-informed: I consider how past experiences can influence present-day emotions, relationships, beliefs, and coping patterns.
  • Holistic: I look at the interaction between your emotional, psychological, physical, relational, and social well-being.
  • Flexible: I adapt our work to your needs rather than expecting you to fit into a particular therapeutic model.
  • Rooted in professional care: I am committed to ethical practice, confidentiality, ongoing learning, consultation, and continued professional development.

You don't need to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. We can start wherever you are and work together toward greater understanding, resilience, and meaningful change.
