For the nurse who keeps saying, “I'm fine.”

You can love your patients and still be exhausted.

You can be good at your job and still be affected by what you've seen.

You can keep functioning and still need support.

Therapy can be a place where you don't have to be the strong one.

We're here to support you.

Renew Resilience Counselling offers in-person counselling in Orléans, Ottawa, and virtual therapy across Ontario.

Our team supports nurses and healthcare professionals experiencing burnout, anxiety, trauma, compassion fatigue, difficult life transitions, and other challenges affecting their wellbeing.

Whether you're looking for EMDR or another evidence-based therapeutic approach, we'll help connect you with a therapist whose experience and approach align with your needs.

How we can help

Trauma-informed therapy for nurses experiencing burnout, compassion fatigue, workplace trauma, anxiety, and the emotional impact of caring for others.

You spend your days caring for others. You deserve a space where someone cares for you, too.

Nursing can be incredibly meaningful, but it can also be emotionally and physically demanding.

You may be caring for people through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives while managing high-stress situations, long shifts, difficult conversations, staffing pressures, workplace challenges, and the emotional weight that can come with caring for others.

Sometimes, you keep going because that's what nurses do.

Until you realize that you're exhausted, overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or carrying experiences from work that you can't seem to leave at work.

At Renew Resilience Counselling, we provide trauma-informed, evidence-based therapy for nurses and healthcare professionals who are ready for a space to slow down, process what they've been carrying, and reconnect with themselves.

You don't have to wait until you're completely burned out.

Therapy can be helpful whether you're struggling to get through your next shift or simply noticing that something feels different.

You might be:

  • Feeling emotionally or physically burned out
  • Dreading work or your next shift
  • Feeling constantly "on" and unable to relax
  • Carrying difficult patient or workplace experiences home with you
  • Replaying something that happened at work
  • Feeling numb, disconnected, or unusually irritable
  • Experiencing anxiety, racing thoughts, or difficulty sleeping
  • Struggling with compassion fatigue or secondary trauma
  • Feeling guilty when you're not working or taking time for yourself
  • Having difficulty setting boundaries at work or at home
  • Questioning whether you want to continue in nursing
  • Navigating a difficult transition, new role, or return to work
  • Processing grief after losing a patient
  • Struggling after experiencing or witnessing violence in the workplace
  • Feeling like you "should be able to handle it" because you're a nurse

You don't need to have everything figured out before reaching out.

A Team That Understands the Work Behind the Work

Allison is the founder of Renew Resilience Counselling. Her interest in supporting nurses has grown through both her personal familiarity with healthcare and her clinical experience working with nurses in therapy. She's found this work particularly meaningful and has become increasingly interested in creating a space specifically for nurses and other healthcare professionals.

At Renew Resilience Counselling, you don’t have to navigate this alone. Our team brings a range of clinical experience, perspectives, and areas of interest to our work with clients.

Maryam Siddiqui, RP and Florence Bérubé, RP (Qualifying) are both EMDR-trained and provide trauma-informed therapy for individuals navigating difficult, overwhelming, or stressful experiences. Their work allows us to support nurses and healthcare professionals with different needs, experiences, and preferences while maintaining the same compassionate, collaborative approach we value at RRC.

Whether you’re experiencing burnout, compassion fatigue, anxiety, the impact of difficult clinical experiences, or simply feeling like the demands of the job are becoming harder to carry, our team can help you find a therapist who feels like the right fit.

You can be capable, compassionate, and good at what you do while still needing support.

When work doesn't stay at work

Nurses are often exposed to experiences that most people don't encounter in their everyday lives.

You may witness suffering, illness, death, medical emergencies, trauma, or unexpected outcomes. You may also experience workplace violence, bullying, moral distress, difficult interactions, or situations that leave you questioning whether you did enough.

Sometimes one experience stays with you.

Sometimes it's the accumulation of hundreds of experiences.

And sometimes you don't even realize how much you've been carrying until your body and mind start telling you that something needs to change.

Therapy can provide a place to process these experiences without having to minimize them, explain them away, or be the strong one in the room.

Therapy for burnout and compassion fatigue

Caring deeply about your patients doesn't mean you have unlimited emotional capacity.

Burnout and compassion fatigue can affect how you feel at work, at home, and in your relationships. You may notice that you're more easily overwhelmed, emotionally drained, detached, impatient, or simply tired of having to care for everyone else.

Therapy can help you understand what's contributing to your exhaustion, identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck, strengthen boundaries, and develop more sustainable ways of coping.

The goal isn't to teach you how to tolerate an unhealthy situation indefinitely.

It's to help you understand what you need and support you in deciding what comes next.

Depression Therapy

EMDR for nurses

As an EMDRIA-Certified EMDR therapist and EMDRIA Consultant-in-Training (CIT), Allison provides EMDR therapy for clients who are working through distressing or traumatic experiences.

For nurses, this may include experiences such as:

  • Witnessing a traumatic event or death

  • A particularly difficult patient experience

  • Workplace violence or assault

  • Medical emergencies or unexpected outcomes

  • Experiences that continue to replay in your mind

  • Experiences that have changed how safe you feel at work

  • Cumulative or repeated exposure to distressing situations

EMDR is not only about one "big" traumatic event. Therapy can also explore the ways repeated or difficult experiences may continue to affect your thoughts, emotions, body, relationships, and sense of safety.

EMDR is always approached collaboratively and at a pace that respects your readiness and sense of safety.

Our RRC team also includes Maryam and Florence, who are EMDR-trained and provide trauma-informed therapy for clients navigating difficult or overwhelming experiences. Together, our team offers a range of therapeutic approaches and areas of experience, allowing us to help connect you with a therapist who feels like the right fit for your needs.

You don't have to be "bad enough" for therapy.

You don't need a diagnosis.

You don't need to be in crisis.

And you don't need to wait until you can't keep going.

Maybe you're functioning. You're showing up for your patients. You're getting through your shifts.

From the outside, everything looks fine.

But internally, you're exhausted.

Therapy can be a space to address what's happening before you reach a breaking point.

Depression Therapy

A therapist who understands that you're more than your job

You are a nurse, but you're also a whole person.

Our approach is relational, trauma-informed, collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-based practice. We take the time to understand you within the context of your relationships, environment, experiences, culture, and the realities of your work.

Therapy isn't about telling you to "just practice self-care" or giving you another checklist to add to your already-full plate.

It's about creating a space where you can be honest about how you're actually doing.

No judgment. No expectation that you need to hold it together.

Just a place to pause, process, and reconnect.

Ready to make some space for yourself?

You spend so much of your time caring for other people.

You deserve support, too.

Therapy services are covered by many extended health insurance plans. Allison is pleased to offer direct billing to most major insurance providers (Maryam offering this option soon...stay tuned)

Florence and Maryam provide clients with a detailed receipt, which you can submit directly to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Coverage varies depending on your individual plan, so we recommend confirming your mental health coverage and eligible provider requirements with your insurance company before beginning therapy.
